Share

A teaching career is for you if you like to work with children and are passionate about education. As an educator, you will be able to help children grow up to be responsible, independent, and productive citizens. You’ll also enjoy the satisfaction of helping other people grow through your experience as an educator.

When was the last time you saw someone with an education degree doing something other than teaching? Or even when you think about it, did you ever notice a person with a college degree doing anything other than teaching?

There is a huge demand for career degrees like nursing and dental assisting, but how many people know what they will do with their degree once they graduate?

If you’re a recent college graduate, you may wonder what you’ll do with your degree. In this article, we’ll look at several different career options for people with education degrees and tell you how to choose the right career for you.

Most of us have a deep desire to help others, and we also want to feel needed and wanted. So why would we choose careers that don’t allow us to fulfill those needs? The truth is, you need a job that will enable you to meet those needs to be happy and healthy.

What is the best career path for you?

So you’ve decided you want to get into the education field. Congratulations!

While you may want to become an educator for the rest of your life, this isn’t the only possible career path. You can also become a career counselor, an educational therapist, an educational specialist, or even a teacher.

I’ve gone into a bit more detail about these options below.

How to Become an Educational Counselor: The first step is to decide what type of counselor you want to be. There are two main types: Clinical Counselors work directly with students. Their job is to help them learn. They often work in schools, clinics, and other places where students come to know. Educational Counselors work indirectly with students. Their job is to teach educators how to help students learn. Both roles require a Master’s degree, but it will vary depending on your chosen career path.

What could be your next step if you are looking to change careers?

Many factors go into changing careers, which can be daunting. However, there are a few ways to prepare for the job hunt.

First, identify the area you want to work in. You might be surprised at what you find.

For example, I wanted to work as an accountant, but I found out that my accounting degree would be useless when I tried to apply for a job.

Second, determine if your degree is a requirement for the position you want to apply for. While it’s great to have a degree in your field, sometimes it’s not required, and you’ll be competing against those who don’t have a degree.

Third, research the industry to determine what skills and characteristics employers are looking for.

You can use sites such as Indeed and Monster to search for jobs by company and skill set.

What is the average salary in this field?

When you look at the statistics, you’ll be surprised. In 2017, the average salary for a dental assistant was $34,000 per year, while the average nurse made $41,000. That’s a difference of $7,000.

While the average salary may sound high, this is because the wages are usually adjusted for inflation. The same goes for other healthcare professions, including the following:

  • Healthcare assistant – $26,000
  • Certified nursing assistant – $27,000
  • Certified medical assistant – $29,000
  • Registered nurse – $31,000
  • Registered dental assistant – $32,000

You may be wondering why there is such a big difference between the average salary of these two professions.

To start, a dental assistant works with dentists. This is a more hands-on role; you’ll often see assistants standing behind the doctor, helping patients during procedures.

Nurses, on the other hand, work in hospitals. This is a more administrative role; you’ll find nurses in charge of operating rooms, ordering supplies, and monitoring patients’ health.

Is there any future growth potential?

Education has always been a powerful tool, and the digital age has only made it more important.

With that said, what are your options if you want to work in the education industry?

There are several ways to break into the field. Some people start working at schools and then transfer to universities after a couple of years. Others work for private tutoring companies. And others go straight into the classroom.
